Frequently Asked Questions

Below you can find the most common questions and answers we receive about Cob Led Light.

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that produces light when current passes through it. Electrons in the semiconductor recombine with electron holes, emitting energy as photons. The energy required for electrons to cross the band gap of the semiconductor determines the color of the light emitted. White light is produced by using multiple semiconductors or a layer of light-emitting phosphor on the semiconductor device.

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) convert electrical energy into light without the intermediate step of heat conversion, unlike traditional light sources such as incandescent, MHL, HID, etc. This results in efficient light production with minimal electricity wastage.

A Chip-on-Board (CoB) LED is a single LED package consisting of multiple LED chips mounted directly on a thermally efficient substrate without individual leadframe, phosphor coating, or lens like an SMD (Surface Mounting Device).

With this consecrated chip array, a COB LED can emit more light from a small space than a typical array of LED packages (SMD). Here are the advantages of using LED COB:

  • Simpler optical/product design can be achieved by using a single LED light source. It is easier for optical designers to create the desired light distribution, whether it is a powerful light spot or a wide flood light.
  • Using a CoB LED instead of an array of packaged LEDs simplifies production by reducing the number of units that need to be soldered onto the board.
  • The color of a CoB LED is likely to be more uniform than SMD LEDs because all the chips are coated with a single phosphor, unlike packaged LEDs where each unit has its own coating.

For years, HID (High-Intensity Discharge) lights, especially Metal Halide ones, have been the top choice for stadium lighting. And among outdoor lighting applications like billboards, roadways, and parking lots, stadium lights have a notably higher wattage. After LED being invented, people start to replace these traditional stadium lights with LED stadium lights. Here are merits brought by LED stadium lights:

  1. Energy efficient: The savings on energy costs are significant, as most of the lighting required for the stadium are high-power fixtures.
  2. Less weight: LED lights weigh significantly less than the outdated metal halid lights, resulting in extra cost savings by decreasing weight load on poles.
  3. Superior Lumen Maintenance: LEDs do not need to be replaced or maintained to retain their brightness for many years, unlike metal halide bulbs that lose 30-40% of their brightness within the first 2 years of use.

Stadium lights can be installed at various heights depending on the location. The beam angles will vary according to their heights. Some stadium lights are mounted at tall heights, such as 20 to 45 meters, which require a narrow beam angle. The lamp structure of “singular COB & reflector has been proven to be the best solution for stadium lighting in the market.

Absolutely, the development of phosphor ceramic SMD chips is in progress. They will be available in early 2025 in various specifications.

Yes, we are devoting ourselves to exploring new applications, such as light source for digital vehicle headlights, HUD, and LED displays. We believe that the advantages of phosphor ceramic would be appealing in these new areas as well.
